About

Deb John studied Textiles and Fashion at Saint Martin’s School of Art, London, but had been working with clay well before then. She has been working exclusively as a potter since the mid-1990s.
The Flint Pottery; her studio at the foot of The Downs near Lewes, Sussex, England was established in 2012. From The Flint Pottery Deb makes birdbaths. sculptural vessels and forms intended for a garden or outdoor setting.
Her pots are all hand built rather than “thrown” and are multi fired and decorated with glazes that she makes herself.

The ceramic birdbaths, bowls and forms are all made from stoneware clay which is suitable for outdoor situations and are fired at very high temperature to make all pieces more frost proof.
Deb works in an energetic, vigorous and spontaneous style and strives to reveal the wonderful properties of clay, glaze and light in her work.
Her inspiration comes from ancient structures, rock art, geological fragments, the landscape and, of course, the glorious natural environment in and around Sussex.

Current Work

The ceramics below are from my current collection. They are all suitable for use as outdoor garden sculptures as they are made from grogged stoneware clay and fired to a temperature of 1260 degrees C. The sculptures can be used to either hold water or simply placed on a plinth in a garden setting or flower border. Please contact me for further information if necessary.
